REACHING SW Europe through giving |
Paul writes in 2 Corinthians of the Macedonian believers who were poor, yet extremely generous... "And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will." 2 Corinthians 8:1-5 |

It is hard to discern amidst the plethora of opportunities and needs locally and across the world, where one should invest financially to have the greatest Kingdom impact. You cannot give toward every opportunity that comes your way. So, how do you decide? We suggest you do as the Macedonians did. First, the Macedonians gave themselves, "first to the Lord." We talk often about 10% belonging to the Lord. In actuality, all that we have is His. And, the 10% tithe is a mere reminder of that. Before you choose where you will invest the resources God has entrusted to you, take a moment and re-submit all you have to Him. Second, the Macedonians didn't give out of guilt or as a result of manipulation. They gave joyfully. Condemnation is a good indicator of an ungodly pressure to turn over your finances. Lastly, the Macedonians pursued opportunities to invest. Don't wait for good opportunities to come knocking. The text shows that the Macedonians "urgently pleaded" for the "privilege" of giving financially. |
